UPSTREAM is working towards a third ’Time for Life’ consortium contract with Devon County Council to deliver community mentoring
- The 'Time for Life' Consortium won its first two-year pan-Devon contract in 2008 to disseminate community mentoring under the Devon 'My Life, My Choice' programme. The project was originally funded by the Department of Health's 'Partnership for Older People Projects' (POPP).
- The second one-year contract in 2010 has been delivered by Consortium members Westbank, Age Concern Devon, Age Concern Exeter, and Upstream. Upstream has had specific responsbility for delivering the service in Mid-Devon and East Devon.
- The initial project was based on the original pilot work by Upstream and by subsequent work by both Upstream and Age Concern Exeter under Devon's Link Age Plus programme funded by the Department of Work and Pensions.
- 'Time for Life' has been delivered through community mentors working in all Devon districts, helping older, more isolated and more vulnerable people to build confidence, engage with their communities and remain independent for longer.
- 'Time for Life' works closely with local GP practices and health and social care professionals, as well as district councils and local voluntary service organisations, volunteers and carers.
